August 5, 2019

Valerie Walters, president and CEO of the Lower Eastside Service Center (LESC) and leader of the LESC Behavioral Healthcare Collaborative, was named one of Crain’s New York Business Notable Women in Health Care.

Recognized for her contributions to the public health system’s transformation, Walters was one of 100 women across a spectrum of New York health care organizations, including hospitals, nonprofits, medical colleges and health care groups, to be honored.

“I am thrilled to be recognized for this award,” says Walters. “And I am proud to be in the company of such accomplished and dedicated women.”

For nearly 25 years, Valerie Walters has driven the mission at LESC, which now accommodates approximately 290,000 patient visits annually with comprehensive opioid treatment and care. She also secured funding to form the LESC Behavioral Health Care Collaborative, a network of New York City-based organizations committed to providing integrated, high-quality physical and behavioral health care to New Yorkers.

“Being the leader of the health care collaborative with its mission to serve vulnerable New Yorkers is truly an honor,” says Walters. ‘It’s important to me that we continue our work of providing responsive, innovative and evidence-based care to people in need.”

Congratulations to Valerie Walters for this well-deserved recognition!
